Overflow with Gratitude
"Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude." Colossians 2:6-7
What does it mean to be 'overflowing with gratitude?' Why does gratitude not come so easily to some and yet others seem to be oozing this quality?
In the above passage, we see that mature Christians are already overflowing with gratitude. It is part of who they are because they understand who Christ is. It is not a command, it is the overflow of receiving Christ in their hearts. If you are truly in Christ, you are firmly rooted because you know that you are His!
Being grateful, thankful and ready to show our appreciation to God comes from knowing and understanding how much Christ has accomplished for us! Humbling ourselves before the LORD reminds us of how wonderful He is. We were dead in our transgressions, but God made us alive together with Christ (Colossians 2:13).
When we fully grasp this truth, we will be thanking God for every little and big event that comes into our lives. It is certainly not easy to be thankful for difficult times. What we need to remember is that Christ has saved us from death! He has granted those who believe in Him eternal life!
With all I am, I want to bring Him praise and glory, overflowing with gratitude.
This song brings glory to the Lord for who He is and that we are His children, representing the overflow of a grateful heart.
