Mature in Christ?
Reflecting on my own journey in faith in Christ, I am beginning to see that I am not very mature in Christ. Sure I accepted Christ and His forgiveness in my life when I was at a young age, grew up in a Baptist church, and so and on. But it was only when Christ in His kindness began sending trials my way that I began to notice I am not very strong in my relationship with Him: not understanding how to suffer well, and being suspicious of His love and gracious promises to me, and so on.
Lord willing, I hope to restructure the way I grow in Christ, and the first step is the most important one-- restructuring the spiritual discipline of reading Scripture. By His help, I hope to transition from "wonderful quiet times" to the pursuit of understanding the word of God.
I really enjoy reading and listening to Sinclair Ferguson, a minister of the Reformed tradition. His understanding of the Christian life has really helped to re-shape mine. This four minute video got me rethinking about my approach to spiritual growth.
How do you understand growth in Christian life, and what role does Scripture play in your spiritual growth?
