As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are to truly love one another. We see this commandment over and over again in the words that Jesus Christ spoke to His disciples.
Why should we love one another? How do we show that we love one another? What about when it is extremely difficult to love your brother or sister? Do we need to ask God to help us love them when it seems like we cannot? Will God indeed help me?
Compassion. Kindness. Humility. Gentleness. Patience. Forgiveness.
"Beyond all these things, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity." Colossians 3:14
The qualities we see listed above require actions. 'Putting on love' is the ultimate action we need to do to truly love our brothers and sisters in Christ. God is love (1 John 4:16) and this love is the unconditional love, agape. This love, is sometimes hard to understand, however, we can truly come to know agape if we know Christ as our personal Savior and Lord.
God is perfect. He perfectly binds us together as His children. We should love one another because God loved us first. We show that we love one another when we are abiding in Christ, reading His word, praising Him and praying to Him. We can always ALWAYS ask Him to help us love our brothers and sisters, especially when it feels impossible. For what is impossible with man is possible with God (Luke 18:27). If God so forgave you, so also you should forgive (Colossians 3:13). Yes, He will indeed help us when we ask according to His will and we are abiding in Him. It's His promise and He keeps His promises (John 15:7).
